Do you use iinet for your internet and phone?

I do, and upon receiving my bill noticed there was 20c charge for a call I made to a 13 number.

I asked them to check which number I had called ( since I try not to use it for calls I wont get free) and it turns out when I called them with a query they charged me for it. So if you're an iinet cutomer you get charged to call them because Telstra won't let them give it free or something. If you ask nicely they will remove the charge, but you'll have to do that each time you call them.

I know it's only 20c but keep an eye on your bill if you've had to call them a few times.

UV gel nails

  • Nov. 17th, 2009 at 12:55 PM

Hey,

Anyone have good recommendations for nail places in the city that does UV gel with glittery powder and doesn't use the scary ass drills to file down your nails?

Thank you >:D<

Leonids shower.

What's the best place in or around Melbourne to view this tonight?

And what direction should we be looking in?

I've trawled at least a million, billion websites but can't find anything definitive, they all just say to look towards the constellation of Leo which is ace but what if you couldn't tell the constellation of Leo from that Mac Tonight character from the 80s?

It's that glorious time of year when we reunite with loved ones (we neglected all year), stuff our faces to excess, and pass out in front of the TV. Perhaps a recalibration of the thanksometer is in order. A spin-off of the popular GivesMeHope.com site, this community invites you to document moments of kindness, generosity, and pure human love.

Despite its mainstream appeal, Thanksgiving is not for everyone. There are those struggling with food disorders, for whom this day causes endless conflict. There are the cash-challenged, who can't afford the gluttony we've grown to expect. There are the lonely, who don't have loved ones nearby. And let's not forget the vegetarians, who decry the animal cruelty. But there's one more group we often overlook: the terminally lazy! This community of lazy vegetarians offers easy recipes for an animal-friendly feast.

Just in time for holiday shopping season, this fashionista community brings you the world of haute couture in the form of sumptuous photos, video clips, and candid commentary. There's also a sugary sprinkle of mainstream movie discussions and debates on such pressing social issues as manicure styles and celebrity colonics. If you need a break from the daily grind to indulge your girlie side, this is twinkly pink on steroids.

Camping rentals?

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Hey all.

Has anyone here had any experience with places that rent out camping gear short-term? I need a 2-man tent, camp stove and a few odds and ends for a four-day stretch over Christmas. I'd just buy the stuff but I'm not entirely sure I'll even be in the country this time next year. I've also tried Freecycle and it's been a bust.

If anyone can recommend a place that's reasonably priced I'd be grateful.

Hiya guys

I'm living in a flat and want to get a cat. I asked my real estate agent awhile ago for permission and she told me that I not only need the landlord's permission, but also that of the owners corporation.

What exactly is an owners corporation? I'm assuming it's the same as a body corporate. If so, why do they have a say in whether pets are allowed? I figured that'd be up to the owner of each individual flat within the block. If they say no and I got a cat anyway, what could they do to me? I have a perfect rental record and don't want to ruin it, yet at the same time, I think I totally deserve to own a small fluffy animal.

Does anyone else here keep pets in rented properties without permission, or would you advise me against this?

Advice/opinions appreciated :)

Dentist suggestions?

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 2:53 AM
Dear Melbiners,

Can anyone here suggest a good dentist, please? An LJ-less friend of mine can't get an appointment with their regular dentist before Christmas, and would like to find one who inflicts a minimum of pain and will allow them to pay the bill off in instalments. I've always found personal recommendations with this sort of thing are invaluable; any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Northside Makers Christmas Market

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 9:54 PM
We have our stallholders, and we are set to go for another Northside Makers Christmas Market on the 28th November, 2009 at Northcote Uniting Church on High Street.

Why is this market special? Unlike a few of the others around, we run not-for-profit with the aim to encourage as many new artists to bring their work into the retail environment. So whilst you might find some old favourites, we also have some jewelers, sewers and crafters that you have *never* seen before. This is our last market for the year, so come along and support us!

quick question

How long does it take between getting caught by the tram police and the ticket actually coming in the post?

Public health system

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 8:07 PM
Does anyone have any experience with Obstetricians in Melbourne?
We have been going private, but dont want to spend the $4000 (which we might get a bit back from Medicare/our private health fund) for the next appointment (considering this woman arrives at work an hour late, and can have you waiting 2 hours for a simple appointment), and wont even be in Melbourne when the baby actually comes (we will be in country WA) so arent fussy about who I see.
What are waiting periods like?

Edit : The fees are actually $3700 for the 20 week appointment (of which medicare covers UP TO 80%) and $1200 for a 30 week appointment. And since the public system is pretty much free, I think thats definitely what Ill be doing :)

Oh yes, it's Bana.

Printing

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 8:56 AM
Hi melbz,
I would like to get a small printing job done today, city or st kilda-ry area. The places in walking distance on st-k road are closed today, I guess some place open early tomorrow would work also but getting it done today would bring peace of mind. Good quality and native forest free paper would be neat also.

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  3. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  4. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  5. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

We're thrilled with our improved decor.

Please keep the love coming for one more week by writing to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. Be sure to include your username, since we'll be drawing the names of ten random contributors next Thursday to win paid account credits!

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 10:18 PM
I'm a full time uni student and had a part time job until i was made redundant at the end of August. I had that job for four years and now i don't know what to do! I'm heading up to Sydney for Christmas so i figured it would be best to start job hunting after that, in January.

I'm a bit out of the job hunting loop - is January a good or bad time to be looking for work? Can anyone suggest part time work that is good for a full time uni student? Or even a full time summer job? I'm experienced in business admin/data entry/office type jobs. I've been keeping my eye on call centre jobs. I feel like that's my only option at the moment.

Are job agencies a good option?

Sorry if this is asked a lot!
